Budget friendly Interior Design Tips

There are times that we might want to give our interiors a fresh new look, but we are not in a position to invest in major renovations. Here are few tips and tricks that can be used to renew any living space without having to go through the stress of breaking walls or expanding bathrooms and kitchens.

Crown Moulding
Although most of it is not done at eye-level, this make major difference to any room. The type of crown moulding used can give a room a very expensive, architectural look.  A room can go from looking like four walls into a modern or traditional detail oriented space. I always highly recommend using crown-mounlding, even in small spaces. With all the options available out there, it is the cheapest way to add great details to your home.

Window Treatment
Windows are a huge factor in a space, it allows natural light in and in many spaces it becomes one of the focal points in the room. Some leave windows completely naked as a look, to allow more natural light in and create larger living space by expanding the horizon. I like to dress the windows, as just like in fashion that what you wear changes your look, what the windows wear changes the look of the room. The color, the style and even the way the window treatments are installed determines the effect on the room. In this case, it is always recommended, although not required, to consult a professional.

Pillows
Try it! it's amazing that different colored pillows and various styles of pillows can affect the looks of the living and bedrooms space. Especially when you math it to the new window treatment and add a few accessories to complement the look.

Accessories
Complement the look of your new drapes with pillows and then a few accessories; candles, flowers, sculptures, decorations, books ect. Anything to add the extra touch and makes it look designer looking.

Paint
This is the most obvious change, it's quick, and with a few tutorials you can buy the bucket of paint yourself and paint the space on a weekend. Brighter colors (beige, white, yellows) make the space look larger, Use red in eating areas as it creates a better mood for eating and conversations, dimmer colors (blues, greens and purple) creates a more relaxed and sometimes romantic look. And over all, any color change on a wall in a space will give your room a completely different look.

Lighting
A well thought space requires a well designed lighting. Because in most cases of budget friendly designs we don't want to use electricians, floor lamps, table lamps and candles are also a greta way to enhance the lighting in a room. Use a few plug in dimmers with the lamps and you can change the mood anytime according to the occasion.

Reupholstering
If the budget allows, Reupholstering your existing furniture is a great way not to purchase new ones and use the existing ones you have by freshening the look. I am a huge fan of reusing your existing furniture as it is a very environmentally friendly process, you are not getting rid of your current couch and you are helping a local business. Pick a fabric that accents the paint color in the room or the new drapes you picked, and have your couch looking new within a few short days.

Accent chairs
The become the focal point, they have to complement the room but must look very different from your couch. The overall look of the room is all that matters at this point.

Mirrors
Highly recommended for smaller spaces, because it creates a larger and brighter look. Mirrors, especially larger ones, creates a larger depth to a room making any space look more open, and reflective surface helps distribute the light, both natural and artificial, much better which gives the space a much brighter look.
